"I'll be back!"

Kia ora,
Thomas Bissett is my name. From the UK and currently working in Auckland. I'm down in Wellington for a chilled out weekend away and have fallen in love with the city. The views from Mt Vic summit are just something else, and with the endless good vibes [emanating] from the cafes and bars, I now see why Aucklanders rave about Wellington. Picnic at Mt. Vic

Tunnel tooting

Thirty days hath September, thirty things we remember ... (#5 of 30)

Driving through Mount Victoria Tunnel with my girsl we toot a cliched rhythm and wait for a reply. The local legend about why people toot is tied to the murder of 17 year old Phylis at the hands of her boyfriend, a labourer working on the tunnel. I think Wellingtonians are either 'tooters' or 'non-tooters'. Which are you? (Kim, Marketing Manager)

Stay Tuned for our daily memory posts throughout Wellington's Heritage Month 2013 - where staff and volunteers share one of their favourite stories of the Wellington Region.

Eyes down at the monastery

In November 1983 I had afternoon tea at St. Gerade's Monastery. We sat in the window seat and looked out at the wonderful view. I was then taken on a personalised guided tour - everywhere! The kitchen, the chapel and even where the brothers slept! I was told by my guide to 'keep my eyes down!' as I was probably the first Protestant woman to visit!
