Wellington, we flirted awhile back, but it wasn't our time.

Now, I can feel what was supposed to be a short-term relationship threatening to lay down roots for good. Maybe I'll change my mind when the weather turns, but for now, your vibrancy and magic seem contagious, and the impossible starts to unfold.

You are beautiful and glorious in ways that other places can't compete with. I shed my JAFA clothes; I'm absolutely, positively smitten.

This city is a memory

Dear Wellington,

Born here in St. Helens, daughter of two former Victoria University students who met here in their first year of study at the Central Baptist Youth Hostel on Boulcott. I know I am home here, every time I come down the gorge and the harbour rises up into view. Now I work in the Majestic Centre, overlooking the carpark which replaced the old youth hostel. I look down and see the moment my parents met for the first time. This city is a memory.

Wandering Scouser

I never expected to be seduced by Windy Welly, but I absolutely love this city. It is a truly beautiful place to be. For now I will call Wellington my home before I continue my adventure around this amazing land.

I just got here working on a cruise ship. I'm here for the day, looking forward to [exploring] every corner possible riding my bicycle... I saw fur seals last time here and didn't have time to see the rest. But today you're gonna touch my soul.

Thomas Bissett is my name. From the UK and currently working in Auckland. I'm down in Wellington for a chilled out weekend away and have fallen in love with the city. The views from Mt Vic summit are just something else, and with the endless good vibes [emanating] from the cafes and bars, I now see why Aucklanders rave about Wellington. Had a great time, and in the words of Arnie...
"I'll be back!" 

Second visit

We are here for 2 days. We're from Melbourne Australia. This is the second time we've visited. The first time was 35 years ago for our honeymoon. 


We have had dinner overlooking the water, lunch on the quay, visited Te Papa and now this museum. We took the bus to the city and rode up the cable car and walked down through the beautiful gardens. We love Wellington!

Such an awesome feeling

It was 15th of March '14 when I flew to your beautiful and amazing place! No words can describe the feelings that I have when felt when I landed to the ground. Such an awesome feeling.
Being here this day is a dream come true. It has been my dream to visit you since I was a child. So I did not thinking twice about going here even [though] it's a 22 hours flight. God bless your country always!!! From Abu Dhabi [with] love,

City with a soul

Dear Wellington

You rained for four months when I first arrived, pausing only to breathe before crying another bucketful.

Then, when it was me who was crying, you changed the backdrop to bright sunny days - fresh from the wash. 

I took refuge in your night, when you stole the stars from the sky to decorate your tall buildings in a forest of christmas trees. 

Under the street lamps I fed pigeons and listened to "Grenada."  

I guess a city can have a soul, maybe made up from all the souls within it, because I never felt alone. 
 

The city of wind, the city of romance

The city of wind, the city of romance and adventure. Of history, architecture and Lord of the Rings. I have never been to a city so far away from where I live that has felt so much like home. I have fallen in love with both a kiwi and his city.

I love the people!

I'm here a couple of days now and it's amazing! The harbour is very beautiful and I really love a lot of other places. But I especially love the people here!

I'm glad I have the opportunity to stay here for 4 months! It's amazing

Unrequited love

Dear Wellington,
You know how much I love you - I've committed to living with you - put down roots, tied my life up here. But this summer its feeling like unrequited love. I'm battered by the southerlies bringing tears to my eyes as the rain gives an uppercut to my chin. Yet, you know, you're counting on, the fact that one glorious day with the harbour sparkling as I swim at Petone beach, will keep me with you.

Impressed with Wellington

An original Aucklander living in Toronto, Canada for the past 40 years. I am so impressed with Wellington. A vibrant, energetic city and one I am so pleased to have visited this week with my mum (90yrs) and my daughter (forever young!). Auckland you may just be the bridesmaid now!

A unique and spectacular city

What a beautiful city you are. The water hugs your shores like a mother clinging to her newborn. The history, the arts, and the culture all combine to make you a truly unique and spectacular city.
