We’re asking visitors to write and leave love letters to Wellington in the Te Upoko o te Ika a Māui exhibition at the Museum of Wellington City & Sea. The exhibition features people's stories and passion about the greater Wellington region. One letter per day is selected to add to this blog. We welcome and encourage conversation and feedback to each letter.

Trains Are The Same
My grandpa drove trains in Wellington and lived with his wife and family in Taikaka St. When I came to Wellington, I swear the trains on the Johnsonville line were the same ones! :)

Wellington 7s
The Wellington 7's has been the meeting point of so many friends traveling from all over the world. We have traveled from Scotland, Australia and South Island, NZ. Who wouldn't travel this far to spend 3 nights in a campervan after a wet and windy but spectacular Wellington 7's! The memories have been made!
This is story refers to the 'Wellington 7s', a rugby tournament that is hosted by Wellington at the Westpac Stadium in February every year.

Hamburger Without The Meat
My family and I arrived here; we were all starving so we went to McDonalds and got burgers. I asked for mine without mayonnaise, and the cashier thought I said no meat so I got a hamburger without the hamburger!

Not Just Cold and Windy
As a visitor to Wellington I've always thought of the city as cold, grey and windy. This weekend was the first time I've ever seen the sun here & it was beautiful.

A Quake In Common
I'm from Christchurch visiting friends with my family. Its so lovely to have a city that is functioning. It was like being at home on Friday when Wellington experienced an aftershock but hey! Nothing compared to what Chch lived through. You are a lucky city. Love Wellington great cafés

My Second Home
I met a Wellington man in a nightclub in London. 14 years later, I'm here with him and our two daughters. We married 11 years ago. Wellington is now my second home and the birthplace of my children. We love Wellington (apart from the wind). Long live the Kiwi OE!!

Life Is Good
My name is Peter and I am from Western Australia. I'm here with my parents (My mum's an NZer) and my sister + her husband. We came to visit relatives + unveil a plaque for the graves of my grandparents in Thames. I am also here to visit/stay with my daughter Simone + her husband Ben who have recently relocated here from Melbourne. I am excited because she is about to have her 1st child (a girl) and my 7th grandchild. They are very happy here and I am happy for them. I am pleased to be able to return here to revisit my own family heritage, and my own direct family. Life is good! Such a special place to visit for so many important reasons.

Don't Get Complacent
I moved here from Canada 6 years ago for an adventure. "It will be fun" we thought," if we don't do it now, we never will." So, we did. Every day I remind myself not to get complacent about the beauty of this country - the views of Pauatahanui inlet, the pohutakawa trees, the changing face of the sea.
